Najib son of Razak was on a critical mission. He has flown 6,347-km from Kuala Lumpur to Riyadh to rub shoulders with King Salman again, and hopefully could take a “selfie”, his favourite past time, with U.S. President Donald Trump. He has been spending millions of top US dollars for an audience with Trump, but so far no lobbyist could get even a 5-minute slot.
Earlier of the month, the White House invited Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Thailand Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha to meet President Trump. Even Rodrigo Duterte, the Philippines president who called President Barack Obama a “son of a whore” and told him to “go to hell”, received his invitation. Surprisingly, Malaysia Prime Minister Najib Razak was excluded.
Deeply humiliated, Najib and his wife Rosmah Mansor went bananas for being “rejected”. How on earth could Donald Trump, whom Najib proudly claimed had autographed “To my favourite Prime Minister”, left his golf buddy out? Najib couldn’t believe the news that he was ignored while Duterte was invited despite killing at least 6,000 drug suspects in 6 months.
His trip to Saudi is to meet Donald Trump – by hook or by crook – so that a photograph of him and the U.S. president could be taken. Even if Trump refuses to meet him, the thick-faced Najib plans to “accidently bumped” into him. Photographers accompanying Mr. Najib were instructed to snap photos like crazy the moment both leaders meet, even for a few seconds.
To attract the attention of Mr. Trump, who was being advised to avoid the Malaysia prime minister like a plague due to 1MDB scandal, Mr. Najib deliberately screams his lung out for partnership to fight terrorism at the Arab Islamic American Summit. Najib said it is crucial that all Muslim countries and leaders make it “absolutely clear that there is nothing Islamic about terrorism”.
Coming from Najib who had earlier urged his 3-million UMNO members to emulate the bravery of the barbarian ISIS terrorists is simply laughable. Of course, when he praised the ISIS and the formation of Islamic State back in June 2014, he hadn’t realized that anti-Muslim and anti-ISIS Donald Trump would one day become the 45th President of the United States.
Suddenly, Najib becomes a saint and lectures that for more than one thousand years, Muslims, Christians and Jews have lived and traded with and befriended each other in the Middle East. He also shamelessly said that under his leadership – “Malaysia Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Christians, Taoists and others work and play side by side in harmony.”
The truth is, under Najib’s leadership, Malaysian Muslims are being radicalized at industrial scale while the Hindus were insulted by Indian Islamic preacher cum extremist Zakir Naik, whom was protected and harboured by the same Najib administration. Christian pastor was kidnappedin broad daylight. Malaysian Chinese were brutalized for telling Najib to stop plundering national coffers.
Make no mistake about Donald Trump’s trip to Saudi Arabia. He went there to reboot US-Muslim world relationship after Barack Obama’s screw-up. He was there primarily to meet the six wealthiest Arab nations – Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates. The rest of the 50 Arab and Muslim nations were invited as cheerleader.
More importantly, Trump was there to close business deals. He could smell suckers thousands of miles away based on rivalry between Sunni-dominated Saudi Arabia and Shia-dominated Iran. What he needed to do was to call Iran the biggest sponsor of terrorism and voila, sucker Saudi is willing to burn US$350 billion buying U.S.-made products.
Just like Malaysia, there’s little doubt that Saudi is a breeding ground for terrorism. Unlike Malaysia, however, Saudi could splash US$110 billion – effective immediately – plus another US$350 billion over the next 10 years, to purchase U.S. military equipments, ranging from tanks, combat ships, missile defence systems, radar and communications, and cyber-security technology.
Money talks, bullshit walks. What can Najib offer Trump so that the U.S. president could close one eye to the lawsuits filed by the U.S. Justice Department to seize assets that it said were the result of US$3.5 billion that was misappropriated from 1MDB (1Malaysia Development Bhd), a fund set up by Najib Razak himself in 2009? Absolutely nothing!
Planning to ambush Trump delegation for a photo shoot is one thing. To be able to gatecrash Trump’s party is another different thing. Does Najib’s boys really think Trump hadn’t read the memo titled – “The TPP and Malaysia’s Corruption Crisis” – emailed by George Soros to Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta?
Does Najib Razak actually believe Trump administration was so ignorant that the U.S. president hadn’t received national security apparatus detailing Prime Minister Najib as “a poster boy for the 21st century kleptocracy” who has used “a racial supremacist ideology that is collapsing under the weight of corruption” to perpetuate himself in power?
But why is a handshake photograph, preferably a selfie, of Najib and Trump at Arab Islamic American Summit so important? It’s important to hoodwink ignorant Malaysian Muslims into thinking that the 1MDB scandal is no longer an issue. Government-controlled news media could publish the photo and front-paged – “Proof That Najib Is a True Leader Admired by U.S. President Trump”
Trump has no intention of letting himself to be caught with Najib. The U.S. president has enough on his plate. After the firing of FBI Director James Comey and appointment of special prosecutor to probe his link to Russia, the last thing Trump wants is a new allegation that he’s involved in Najib’s “Ponzi Scheme” designed to fleece taxpayers’ money to the tune of US$6 billion.
