VIRAL VIDEO – MAN IN TTDI REMOVES BN FLAGS & THROWS THEM TO THE GROUND: BUT SHOULD COPS PROBE HIM OR THOSE WHO PLANTED THE FLAGS EVEN BEFORE NOMINATION DATE IS FIXED

KUALA LUMPUR— Police are investigating a video showing a man removing Barisan Nasional (BN) flags in Taman Tun Dr Ismail that was shared online.

City police chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim said three reports were lodged in the area including one by the witness on Saturday.

“The suspect should have informed to Kuala Lumpur City Hall to take action if he was unsatisfied but instead took matters into his own hand,” he said at the City police Contingent Headquarters today.

Political party flags and banners may not yet be installed as the official campaign period for the 14th general election has not begun and is pending the Election Commission’s (EC) announcement of the official nomination and polling dates.

He said police have not made arrests and urged those with further information to contact investigators.

The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief and damage of at least RM25,000 in value.

Segambut Umno Youth division chief Ahmad Baidzawi Saleh confirmed in a Harian Metro report today that he lodged a report at TTDI police station around 3pmyesterday.

The 41-second video is believed to have been recorded by a motorist along Jalan Burhanuddin Helmi around 10.30am on Saturday.

In it, a man is shown removing BN flags by the roadside near the TTDI police station when the motorist approached him.

The man then responded with vulgar gestures after realising he was being recorded by the motorist, and continued removing several more flags up the road.

‘I WAS REALLY HURT WHEN SHAFIE STABBED ME IN THE BACK… I STILL FEEL THE PAIN’: IN SHAFIE’S BASTION, NAJIB WHIPS OUT THE ‘CROCODILE TEARS & SYMPATHY’ CARD

SEMPORNA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak (pic) says he was “really hurt” by Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal’s actions in 2016.

“I was disappointed that when certain situations arose, Shafie stabbed me in the back… I still feel the pain, especially because it was done by a close friend,” said Najib.

Shafie, the five-term Semporna MP, left Umno and formed Parti Warisan Sabah in 2016 to take on Barisan Nasional.

Speaking at a gathering here on Monday (April 9), Najib said a leader is only as strong as the support he gets from his party, and that a party can only be strong if there is loyalty to the leader.

“As the Prime Minister, I know that I’m not strong because of the name ‘Najib Razak’, but because of the three million Umno supporters behind me,” he said.

Najib said he had entrusted Mohd Shafie to bring development to the state as the rural and regional development minister but claimed that the latter did not heed his advice to work with Sabah Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman.

“I gave extraordinary opportunities to Shafie to become the first Umno vice president from Sabah,” said Najib.

The Barisan chairman is on a two-day visit to east part of Sabah and will visit Tawau and Semporna.

It is his first leg of a tour since Barisan launched its manifesto on Saturday, which pledged to realise by consensus the rights of Sabah and Sarawak under the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

In the last general election, Barisan won the Semporna parliamentary seat and the three state seats, Senallang, Bugaya and Sulabayan.

But in 2016, Mohd Shafie formed Warisan with Sulabayan assemblyman Datuk Dr Jaujan Sambakong joining his party.

Senallang and Bugaya remained in Umno’s fold and are represented by Datuk Seri Nasir Sakaran and Datuk Ramlee Marhaban respectively.

PERAK SULTAN POINT-BLANK TELLS EC TO BEHAVE WITH ‘INTEGRITY, TRANSPARENCY & PROFESSIONALISM’, WARNS BOTH SIDES OF POLITICAL DIVIDE NOT TO TRIGGER DISCORD

KUALA KANGSAR — Politicians taking part in the general election must conduct themselves with civility and maturity, said Perak’s Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah today.

He told all political parties to ensure that public order and safety as well as communal harmony are not endangered in any way during the run-up to the 14th general election.

During a special ceremony at the Istana Iskandariah where he gave royal consent to dissolve the state assembly, Sultan Nazrin also decreed that sensitive matters such as race, religion, culture, and language must not be used for political capital during the polls.

“At all times, it must be ensured that no words are said, no actions taken that can trigger discord among the people,” he said.

“The nation’s safety and public order are too valuable to be sacrificed for short term political goals.”

He described elections as an inalienable right that must always be respected and cherished.

Citing experiences from the 13th general election, the Sultan said it was imperative to ensure that the polls are held peacefully and with decorum.

He also called for the country’s security forces be allowed to perform their duties faithfully and without interference.

The Perak Ruler then reminded law enforcement agencies of their responsibility to act without fear and favour, as well as their pledged loyalty to defend the King and country.

“The Election Commission (EC) must also carry out their duties with integrity in a transparent and professional manner to ensure the election is not disputed.

“All responsible parties should cooperate to allow the EC to carry out their duties as well as possible.”

Sultan Nazrin Shah later expressed his appreciation for the service of Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir, state executive councillors, and lawmakers since 2013.

WELL LOVED & RESPECTED YOU MAY BE BUT THE PEOPLE’S WISHES COME FIRST: JOHOREANS SPEAK UP ON CROWN PRINCE’S ADVICE NOT TO CHANGE THE BOAT

Johoreans have an intricate relationship with their royal family, who are pillars of society in the state.

In recent years, state ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar and his son Crown Prince Tunku Ismail have often been lauded for speaking out in favour of the people.

So when Tunku Ismail weighed in on the 14th general election on Facebook late on Saturday, saying there was no need to change a ship’s engine because of a problematic skipper, many felt it was a major blow to Pakatan Harapan’s efforts to convince Johoreans to unseat Umno.

For Umno loyalist Abdullah Muhammad, the crown prince’s comment was a decree to be followed.

“My vote would be influenced. Bangsa Johor will follow what the crown prince says, meaning if he or the sultan makes a statement, Malays must follow what they say,” the 57-year-old security guard told Malaysiakini when met in Muar.

But some, such as Abdul Razak Abu Samad, 50, feel an internal conflict between their love for the royal family, and their desire for change.

“For a bright future, we follow what the sultan says, because if the sultan is not happy it will be hard for Johor.

“We are close to the Johor royalty… But now I am confused as to how to achieve change,” Abdul Razak said when met in Ayer Hitam.

However, for most others Malaysiakini spoke to in Muar, their needs and desires outweighed any royal advice on the elections.

WELL LOVED & RESPECTED YOU MAY BE BUT THE PEOPLE’S WISHES COME FIRST: JOHOREANS SPEAK UP ON CROWN PRINCE’S ADVICE NOT TO CHANGE THE BOAT

Like many around the country, office assistant Sulaiman Bustamam, 43 (photo above), is feeling the pinch from rising costs of living, and it is this factor that will weigh on his mind at the ballot box.

“You can’t force people (to vote one way)… You have to think rationally, logically, what has the government done. Is there development?” Sulaiman said.

First-time voter Wan Mohd Helmi Wan Ismail wants to evaluate the contesting parties based on their manifestos.

And while those around him may influence how he votes, the love Johoreans have for the royal family will not.

“The elections are about the people,” the 22-year-old student said.

Fellow student Nadirah Zainal similarly said that the crown prince would not influence her vote, which she will cast based on her evaluation of local leaders instead.

WELL LOVED & RESPECTED YOU MAY BE BUT THE PEOPLE’S WISHES COME FIRST: JOHOREANS SPEAK UP ON CROWN PRINCE’S ADVICE NOT TO CHANGE THE BOAT

Others, such as BN supporter Fauziah Yudin, 60 (photo above), will vote simply on a desire to see a continuation of the ruling government and to ensure peace.

Following a raging debate on social media, Tunku Ismail has clarified that his comments made last Saturday were only his personal opinion and that he did not side with either BN chairperson Najib Abdul Razak or Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Tunku Ismail said the people are entitled to their opinions and who they wish to support but claimed that the majority who had voiced out were outsiders.

CRUSH POLITICAL ‘INSECT’ VELL PAARI BY ALL MEANS BUT LISTEN TO AMBIGA, DR M: STOP USING ‘KELING’ – YOU MAY HAVE INDIAN ROOTS BUT YOU ARE NOW A MALAY & MANY M’SIAN INDIANS FIND ‘KELING’ OFFENSIVE

National Human Rights Society (Hakam) chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan has urged Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad to refrain from using the term ‘keling.’

“The word is indeed derogatory of the Indians. No doubt it has its roots in the historical Kalinga region in India but today in Malaysia, it is widely considered to be derogatory of Indian Malaysians.

“I would, therefore, urge Mahathir to refrain from using the term altogether (particularly since the aim was not to insult anyone).

“While it might have been commonly used in Kedah and not considered derogatory there, I think in today’s Malaysia it is unacceptable and hurtful to the Indian Malaysian community,” Ambiga told Malaysiakini.

Last Friday, Mahathir, in criticising the Election Commission, had said: “I want to use a ‘keling’ word. The ‘keling’ say podah (get lost).”

This prompted MIC treasurer-general S Vell Paari to accuse the former prime minister of being a racist and cited a story about a girl and a snake to drive home his point.

However, Mahathir (photo) remained unapologetic.

CRUSH POLITICAL ‘INSECT’ VELL PAARI BY ALL MEANS BUT LISTEN TO AMBIGA, DR M: STOP USING ‘KELING’ – YOU MAY HAVE INDIAN ROOTS BUT YOU ARE NOW A MALAY & MANY M’SIAN INDIANS FIND ‘KELING’ OFFENSIVE

“It’s our language (in Kedah) and I’ve used the word ‘keling’ since I was small, there is no problem.

“My ‘keling’ friends have never scolded me. So why is MIC angry over this,” he told reporters yesterday when quizzed on Vell Paari’s criticism.

When Mahathir had made a similar remark in 2016, it had courted the wrath of Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy.

As a former prime minister, the DAP leader said, Mahathir should have known that the word is derogatory and disparaging to Indian Malaysians.

‘Who are these Indian friends who never scolded you?’

Meanwhile, Vell Paari (photo) claimed that the Harapan chairperson’s response to his criticism was an admission that he had always been a racist.

CRUSH POLITICAL ‘INSECT’ VELL PAARI BY ALL MEANS BUT LISTEN TO AMBIGA, DR M: STOP USING ‘KELING’ – YOU MAY HAVE INDIAN ROOTS BUT YOU ARE NOW A MALAY & MANY M’SIAN INDIANS FIND ‘KELING’ OFFENSIVE

“Yes, Mahathir, for those who conceived it, it wasn’t considered racist in the 15th century up to early last century when you were born.

“For they were not at the receiving end of the insulting and derogatory word.

“It was my community that is the victim of the ‘keling’ word. Just like how the Caucasians in America, South Africa, Australia and Europe conceived words and laws against Africans, Asians, and Aborigines. For the Caucasians, it was not considered offensive. But ask those on the receiving end.

“But Mahathir, it is now an offence in Malaysia and other countries who practised your ideology. So please stop partying as if it is still 1929,” he added in a statement.

“The Indian community is eager to know these Indian friends of yours. Could it be Ramasamy and the other Indian leaders in DAP and PKR? Maybe P Waythamoorthy or the Indian leaders of new political parties that have pledged support to Mahathir?

“It’s only fair that these leaders disclose if it’s all right for Mahathir to use the word ‘keling’,” he added.

Zam: Mahathir is also of ‘keling’ descent

Zainuddin Maidin has come out in defence of former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad for using the term “keling”, which is considered derogatory to Indians.

In a Twitter posting, the former information minister said that his father was a Malabar and he too was called “anak keling” (son of a keling) during school.

“I never considered this as an insult until it was raised in Parliament and now MIC is using it as fodder for racial politics because Mahathir used the term.

“Mahathir is also of ‘keling’ descent,” he added.

Apart from MIC treasurer-general S Vell Paari, National Human Rights Society (Hakam) chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan also urged the former premier to stop using the term.

She argued that while its origins were not derogatory, it is now considered disparaging and hurtful to the Indian community in Malaysia.

Vell Paari, on the other hand, accused the former premier of being a racist.

Last Friday, Mahathir, in criticising the Election Commission, had said: “I want to use a ‘keling’ word. The ‘keling’ say podah (get lost).”

Quizzed on MIC’s criticism, the former premier remained unapologetic.

“It’s our language (in Kedah) and I’ve used the word ‘keling’ since I was small, there is no problem.

“My ‘keling’ friends have never scolded me. So why is MIC angry over this,” he told reporters yesterday.

Previously, when a video of Mahathir uttering the word went viral on social media in 2016, it drew flak from both PKR and DAP.

PKR vice-president Prof Shaharuddin Badaruddin said words which have a negative racial connotation must be discarded and urged Mahathir to reconsider using such terms in future.

Whereas, Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy said as a former premier, Mahathir should know that the term is derogatory.

Although Zainuddin, who is better known as Zam, pointed to Mahathir’s Indian roots, the former premier is said to be uncomfortable about this issue.

Last August, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi took a dig at Mahathir’s ancestry, claiming the veteran politician’s identity card (IC) showed he was Indian because his name was stated as Mahathir a/l Iskandar Kutty.

He also read out the full IC number of Mahathir.

“This is good enough to show that Zahid is a big liar. A big liar because he cannot show the blue-coloured identity card.

“I can still remember the first identity card I received. I was still in university at the time,” he added.

GUAN ENG’S BUNGALOW TRIAL POSTPONED TO MAY 21 DUE TO ELECTIONS, PENANG ASSEMBLY TO DISSOLVE TODAY

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s corruption trial has been postponed to May 21.

High Court Judge Datuk Hadhariah Syed Ismail fixed the date when the case came up for hearing on Monday (April 9).

Lim’s counsel Gobind Singh Deo made the application for a postponement, citing the Chief Minister’s duty to prepare for GE14.

Lim was not present in court.

Deputy public prosecutor Datuk Masri Mohd Daud objected to the application, saying that the court should proceed with the trial as the Election Commission has not fixed the dates for GE14.

However, Hadhariah said the court was unable to proceed with the case as Lim was not present in court and added that Lim has to attend to official business related to GE14.

She also fixed May 10 for case management.

Lim and businesswoman Phang Li Koon pleaded not guilty to the charges against them on March 26.

For the first amended charge, Lim was accused of using his position as a public officer to gain gratification for himself and his wife Betty Chew Gek Cheng, by approving the application for conversion of agriculture land to a public housing zone in southwest Penang to a company, Magnificient Emblem Sdn Bhd.

Lim, 58, was charged with committing the offence while chairing the Penang State Planning Committee meeting at the operations room, Level 28, Komtar building here, on July 18, 2014.

The amended charge involved the change of “civil servant” to “public officer”.

If Lim is found guilty of the charge under Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act, he faces imprisonment of up to 20 years and a fine of up to five times the sum or value of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.

For the second amended charge, Lim was accused of using his position to obtain for himself a plot of land and a bungalow, located at 25 Jalan Pinhorn, George Town, from Phang for RM2.8mil, a price which he allegedly knew was not commensurate with the property’s then market value of RM4.27mil.

The offence was allegedly committed at 25 Jalan Pinhorn, George Town here on Oct 21, 2015 (instead of July 28, 2015 as stated in the original charge).

The charge was framed under Section 165 of the Penal Code, which provides a sentence of imprisonment for up to two years, a fine or both upon conviction.

Phang also pleaded not guilty to an amended charge with abetting Lim in obtaining the bungalow at an undervalued price at the same place and date.

She was charged under Section 109 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 165 of the same law, which provides an imprisonment for up to two years, a fine or both upon conviction.

The prosecution team was led by deputy public prosecutor Datuk Masri Mohd Daud, while Lim is represented by Gobind Singh Deo, Ramkarpal Singh and R.S.N. Rayer.

Lawyers Datuk V.Sithambaram and Hisyam Teh Poh Teik are acting for Phang.

Penang State Assembly to be dissolved on Monday

GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng was seen entering the Yang diPertua Negeri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas’s residence, his car driving past reporters at the gates at 8.30am on Monday (April 9).

He is seeking an audience with Abdul Rahman to dissolve the state assembly.

Earlier state secretary Datuk Seri Farizan Darus waved to reporters when his car entered the residence.

Lim was then spotted leaving the Yang diPertua Negeri’s residence at about 9.18am.

Lim is holding a press conference at Komtar at 1.45pm Monday.

SURAT TERBUKA RAFIDAH AZIZ KEPADA NAJIB – DIHARAP PERDANA MENTERI DAPAT SEGERA BERI PENJELASAN

SURAT TERBUKA KAPADA PM
Bismillahirrahmanirrahim
DATO’ SRI PM,
Perkara : PENGSWASTAAN SEMUA TANAH MINDEF / MILITARI  DI SELURUH MALAYSIA
Tiada seorang pun menteri lain menyoal Dato’ Sri.
Kertas Kabinet telah diluluskan.
DATO’ SRI  PM ,
Wang DEPOSIT sebanyak RM741 juta sudahpun dibayar olih mereka.
3) EAST COAST RAIL LINK (ECRL) sepanjang 620 km
SEMUA TANAH MINDEF/ MILITARI, SEKARANG DIMILIKI olih ‘Syarikat 3 Individu’.
Saya ingin mendapat PENGESAHAN :
RAKYAT PERLU TAHU SEMUA FAKTA2 .
SILALAH DEDAHKAN UNTUK PENGETAHUAN AWAM:
   a)  NAMA2 3 Individu itu
   b)  NAMA Syarikat mereka
KITA SEMUA mesti TAAT SERTA PATUH BERPEGANG  kapada )SUMPAH PERLANTIKAN JAWATAN KITA. Menteri2 berugama ISLAM, MEMULAKAN SUMPAH mereka dengan Lafaz..
  ‘Wallahi, Wabillahi, Watallahi’
ALLAH SWT MENGHAKIMKAN SEGALA2NYA.
Terima kasih,
Salam Sejahtera,
Rafidah Aziz.

ROS Surayati tersenyum lebar “membubarkan” PPBM

Logo PKR menjadi lambang PRU PH
