PETALING JAYA: Selangor Amanah should represent Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the two by-elections in Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar, according to Chairman Izham Hashim, as the party has replaced PAS in the Opposition coalition.
“Since Amanah has replaced PAS in PH, it’s only right that we contest in the by-elections in Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar.
“We have many qualified candidates and the matter will be discussed in a meeting with party members on May 15,” he told FMT today.
Izham said this when asked if the party would field candidates to contest in the Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by-elections.
The Sungai Besar parliamentary seat became vacant after its representative, Deputy Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Noriah Kasnon, was killed in a helicopter crash in Sarawak last Thursday.
The tragedy also claimed the lives of Kuala Kangsar MP Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad, Noriah’s husband Asmuni Abdullah, ministry secretary-general Sundaram Annamalai and Noriah’s bodyguard Sobri Ahmad Harun.
Izham was also asked to comment on the statement by PKR Deputy President Mohamed Azmin Ali that PAS return to the coalition with PKR and DAP for the coming 14th General Election (GE14).
“Any leader of a component party in PH is free to invite anyone or any party to join PH.
“However, the acceptance must be in accordance with procedures contained in PH’s recently signed agreement.
“PH believes that the Opposition needs to work together under one platform to face Barisan Nasional (BN).
“The parties concerned should be honest and willing to abide by the rules in relation to PH. Also, there needs to be a consensus between all three of PH’s existing component parties.”
